Game Creator

The GameCreator system supports on-line development of pervasive games. It is directed towards the skilled amateur developer, rather than towards the professional programmer or game designer. It is not designed for children and it requires some level of programming or scripting awareness to use. A target user could for example be a person who has some interest in pervasive games, and previous experience of setting up Web 2.0 services.
The GameCreator system was constructed to answer to some of the central research issues for the Box showcase.

  • The structure of GameCreator encapsulates some design knowledge about pervasive games, helping users to think about how to make their games pervasive.
  • The use of a consistent Web 2.0 interface creates an interface that does not require proficiency in any programming language to use.

The abstraction and integration of multiple device technologies in a common design framework makes it possible to design games that rely on more than one box. A back-end API has been developed and documented for this purpose.
