Epidemic Menace

player

Epidemic Menace was an event-based cross-media game that was staged in 2005 and 2006. The story of the game was about a humankind-threatening virus epidemic. A villain scientist, craving for power, created a lethal virus mutation and contaminated a university campus. Epidemic Menace was played in teams of four players over three hours. Each team played as a “medical expert team”. The players were equipped with several different gaming interfaces and were tasked to destroy the virus before it managed to escape the campus.

pdfCrossmedia Final Prototype
The document summarizes and provides a structured presentation of Crossmedia phase two showcase prototype Epidemic Menace II. In addition, this document should provide a pervasive gaming design example and is intended to foster pervasive gaming design ideas and realizations in Europe. (PDF, Oct 2006)

pdfCrossmedia First Prototype
This document describes the first Crossmedia prototype. It gives a short overview of the provided source code and configuration files, describes the hard- and software requirements, and explains the installation of the first prototype "The Epidemic Menace." (PDF, Oct 2006)

pdfCrossmedia Game Report Part I
This document summarizes the work done in the Crossmedia work package of IPerG. During the first year, we designed, implemented and staged a first version of Epidemic Menace. In the second year of this work package, we revised the first version of the game and staged it as a public game event. (PDF, Feb 2006)

pdfEarly Design Guidlines
This document introduces into the design of crossmedia games with special attention to trans-reality aspects. It outlines the challenges of crossmedia games and research themes to be explored. (PDF, March 2005)
